2024 Fantasy Outlook
Lock signed with the Giants in March as the backup to Daniel Jones. But Jones might not be ready for the start of the season after a November ACL injury, and hasn’t exactly cemented himself as the Giants’ long-term answer anyway, so the door seemingly is cracked for Lock to take the job. That wasn’t the case the last two years in Seattle where Lock was firmly behind starter Geno Smith, which partially explains why he bolted for New York. At 6-4, 228, Lock has prototypical size and arm strength, and he was credible in two starts for an injured Smith last season, completing 68.8 percent of his attempts at a 7.5-yard average depth. He won’t have as much help in New York, though, with Malik Nabers, the sixth overall pick in this year’s draft, leading an otherwise mediocre WR corps and a backfield that replaced Saquon Barkley with only Devin Singletary. Says Jones is the starter
Lock said Friday that he's been told Daniel Jones (knee) is the Giants' starting quarterback, Charlotte Carroll of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
The question likely was asked in response to Seahawks GM John Schneider saying Thursday that he wanted to re-sign Lock but lost out to the Giants because they offered the opportunity to compete for a starting job. Lock seems to be suggesting otherwise, though Jones' recovery from an ACL tear suffered Nov. 5 could make things interesting. Jones' contract is another factor, with a $23 million injury guarantee for 2025 potentially creating a mid/late-season situation like the one we saw in Denver with Russell Wilson in 2023 (Wilson was benched to ensure he'd stay healthy and reduce the dead-cap charge for releasing him in the offseason).

Will compete with Jones
Lock and Daniel Jones will compete for the Giants' starting quarterback job in 2024, according to Albert Breer of SI.com.
ANALYSIS
Big Blue could still bring a rookie into the mix with the sixth overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, but the team's quarterback room currently consists of Jones, who is rehabbing a torn ACL, and the newly signed Lock. Starting Lock would make sense for the Giants if the competition is close, as the team has a potential out at the halfway point of Jones' four-year, $160 million contract after the 2024 season. If Jones were to get hurt this year as he did in 2023, the team would be unable to release him, putting the Giants on the hook for a portion of the remainder of Jones' deal.

Lock lost an open quarterback competition to Geno Smith before last season, and Smith played his way into a three-year, $105 million contract. Nevertheless, Lock accepted a one-year, $4 million deal to be the backup in Seattle in 2023. He's only 26 years old and is a fine backup with a career 6.7 yards per attempt and 25:20 TD:INT, but he'll be hard-pressed to find a starting job unless he can prove himself further. If he manages to get playing time in Seattle, however, he's set up well for success with DK Metcalf, Tyler Lockett and Jaxon Smith-Njigba at wide receiver.
